(E) Container In this test, the shells of the work tool will be closed. The hydraulic circuit will be opened after the hydraulic cylinder. Pressure will be applied to the extended cylinder which will not be able to close the shells further. Fluid leakage will be monitored at the open hose in order to determine if the hydraulic cylinder has significant internal leakage.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns.To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the work tool hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before operating any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.After collecting all fluids in suitable containers, dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Close the shells of the work tool. Place the work tool on the ground and shut off the engine on the host machine. Close the ball valves on the host machine in order to prevent excess oil to the work tool. Note: Disconnect the hoses and cap the hoses on machines that are not equipped with ball valves.

Remove any cover plates (1) in order to allow access to the hydraulic cylinder of the work tool.

Plates have been removed from the lower housing for a clear view of the hose assemblies.
Locate the hydraulic hose that is connected to the rod end of the hydraulic cylinder. Disconnect hydraulic hose from the swivel. Plug the opening of the swivel.
Place the open end of the hydraulic hose into a suitable container.
Open the ball valve on the host machine that will provide supply oil to the work tool. Note: Reconnect the hoses on machines that are not equipped with ball valves.
Start the engine of the host machine and operate the machine until the hydraulic oil reaches normal operating temperature.
Activate the control that closes the shells of the work tool. Observe the open end of the hose. If there is flow through the hose, the seals of the hydraulic cylinder are damaged. Note: If the cylinder cycle times were not within the specifications and the seals in the hydraulic cylinder are sealing properly, the swivel may be leaking internally.
Reconnect the open hose to the swivel.
Replace any cover plates that have been removed.
Make sure that both ball valves of the host machine are open. Note: Make sure that the hoses are reconnected on machines that are not equipped with ball valves.
