TANK FOR CERTAIN EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
Condensation may accumulate water in the bottom of the fuel tank. The water enters the fuel supply line and is trapped by the water separator. The water can eventually decrease the flow of fuel to the engine and result in poor engine performance. The water can also promote corrosion and release debris into the fuel supply. The debris can shorten the service life of the filters and other components.
SOLUTION:
The installation of an extended standpipe in the bottom of the fuel tank and the addition of insulation to the sides of the fuel tank prevent excessive water from entering the fuel supply line. Procure the parts that are listed in Table 1 and use the information that follows in order to modify the fuel tank.

Extend The Standpipe At The Fuel Suction Port
A longer standpipe can be installed on the fuel tank without welding on the fuel tank. Drill the inside diameter of a new
128-4411 Valve Assembly and tap with a 1/4 inch tap. Chamfer the tapped hole and install the brass pipe nipple. Braze or solder the threads of the nipple and the valve in order to prevent leaks. Remove the former valve assembly from the fuel tank. Install the new valve assembly and standpipe in the fuel tank boss at the bottom of the tank. Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.

Add Insulation To The Fuel Tank
The addition of insulation to the fuel tank will prevent the formation of excessive water condensation in the tank. The insulation is made from the 199-7502 Foam. Install the foam on the three sides and on the bottom of the fuel tank as shown in the Illustration 3. Illustration 3. Insulation Installation On The Fuel Tank

Note: Make sure that the accumulated water in the fuel tank is drained daily in order to prevent corrosion. Fill the fuel tank after every operation in order to prevent water condensation.
