start by:a) remove timing gear cover 1. Loosen bolt (1) approximately 3.2 mm (.125 in.).2. Install tooling (A) on the fuel injection pump drive gears as shown. Use tooling (A) to loosen the fuel injection drive gear from the fuel injection pump camshaft. 3. Remove tooling (A), bolt (1), washer (2) and fuel injection pump drive gear and automatic timing advance (3).Install Fuel Injection Pump Drive Gear And Automatic Timing Advance
1. Turn the crankshaft until the "C" mark on the crankshaft gear is in alignment with the "C" mark on the camshaft drive gear. 2. Remove plug (1) from the left side of the flywheel housing. Install a 3/8"-16 NC bolt in the flywheel through the hole for plug (1). 3. Remove bolt (3).4. Remove timing pin (2) (if so equipped) from the cover of the governor housing.5. Put timing pin (2) or tool (A) in the hole that bolt (3) was removed from.6. Turn the fuel injection pump camshaft until the timing pin goes into the notch in the camshaft. 7. Put fuel injection pump drive gear and automatic timing advance (4) in position on the fuel injection pump camshaft. Install the washer and bolt that hold it in place. 8. Install tooling (B) in the holes of the fuel injection drive gear as shown. Put a torque of approximately 70 N m (50 lb.ft.) on the pump drive gear in a clockwise direction (as seen from the front of the engine). With the clockwise torque on the pump drive gear, tighten the bolt to a torque of 149 7 N m (110 5 lb.ft.).9. Remove timing pin (2) or tool (A). Remove the 3/8"-16 NC bolt from the flywheel.10. Turn the engine clockwise (as seen from the front of the engine) two complete revolutions. If timing pin (2) or tool (A) goes into the notch in the camshaft and the 3/8"-16 NC bolt goes into the flywheel at the same time, the timing is correct. Remove the bolt from the flywheel and install plug (1). Remove timing pin (2) or tool (A). If so equipped with timing pin (2), install the timing in the cover of the governor housing and install bolt (3).11.
