Rework Procedure
Refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary.
1. Perform appropriate system troubleshooting to isolate the problem or determine the failed component(s). Refer to SEPD0462, Caterpillar Prelube Troubleshooting, as needed. An inspection of the electrical connection between the 1403108/">140-3108 Timer and 179-0006 Switch Assembly should be included in the troubleshooting. The connection should be inspected for loose ring terminal joint hardware, ring terminal heat shrink present in the bolted joint, corrosion, and cut or damaged blue or red ring terminal wires. Image 1.1.2 may be referenced for inspections.

2. If the 1403108/">140-3108 Timer has failed, replace the timer. If the machine is equipped with a 179-0006 Switch Assembly, replace the switch with the 337-9078 Switch Assembly. If the switch assembly is reused, remove any corrosion on the terminals and studs and fastener hardware before reassembly. Reassemble the timer terminal hardware as shown in Image 1.2.1 and the starter cable terminal hardware as shown in Image 1.2.2. and test the system function.

3. If the machine is equipped with a 179-0006 Switch Assembly and the switch assembly has failed, replace the 179-0006 Switch Assembly with the 337-9078 Switch Assembly. Also replace the 1403108/">140-3108 Timer. Reassemble the timer terminal hardware as shown in Image 1.2.1 and the starter cable terminal hardware as shown in Image 1.2.2. and test the system function.
