Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Coolant flow is balanced (fined tuned) by the placement of various size orifices in the cooling circuit. These are strategically placed to provide correct balance and flow. Do not change the position or the size of the orifices.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
Disconnect the coolant outlet from the water temperature regulator housing.

Remove tube (5), elbow (6), and the gasket. Remove the O-ring seals.
Remove tube (1) and tube (2). Remove the O-ring seals.
Ensure that all tube assemblies have been disconnected from water temperature regulator housing (4). Note: The water temperature regulator housing can be installed backward. This can cause the engine to overheat. Mark the correct orientation for installation purposes.
Attach a suitable lifting device to water temperature regulator housing (4). The weight of water temperature regulator housing (4) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Remove nuts (3) and water temperature regulator housing (4).
Remove the gasket and the water temperature regulators from water temperature regulator housing (4). Remove the lip seals from water temperature regulator housing (4). Installation Procedure

Use Tooling (A) in order to install the lip seals in water temperature regulator housing (4). Ensure that the lips of the seals are facing downward.
Install the water temperature regulators in water temperature regulator housing (4).
Attach a suitable lifting device to water temperature regulator housing (4). The weight of water temperature regulator housing (4) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Place water temperature regulator housing (4) and the gasket in position. Install nuts (3).
Ensure that all tube assemblies have been connected to water temperature regulator housing (4).
Install new O-ring seals on tube (2) and tube (1). Apply a light coat of glycerin to the O-ring seals.
Install tube (2) and tube (1).
Install new O-ring seals on tube (5). Apply a light coat of glycerin to the O-ring seals.
Install tube (5), elbow (6), and the gasket.
Connect the coolant outlet to the water temperature regulator housing.
Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
