Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Accumulated grease and oil on a machine is a fire hazard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water, at least every 1000 hours or each time any significant quantity of oil is spilled on a machine.
Note: If major repairs to the work tool are required, consult your Caterpillar dealer.For the maximum service life of the work tool, make a thorough walk-around inspection before you mount the machine and before you start the machine.Inspect the work tool for the following conditions: loose bolts, worn tips, broken parts and worn parts. Inspect the work tool for missing parts. Check the overall condition of the work tool.Inspect the shells. Remove any scrap or waste material from the shells.Inspect the hydraulic components for any damage or for any leaks.Inspect the welds, the pins, and the bores for damage. If the components are damaged, consult your Caterpillar dealer. Do not weld on the work tool without consulting your Caterpillar dealer.Perform all repairs before you put the work tool into service.Check safety messages. Replace the safety messages when the safety messages are damaged. Replace the safety messages when you cannot read the safety messages. Replace the safety messages when the safety messages are missing.The rotator gear must be lubricated prior to first use. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Rotator Gear - Lubricate" for additional information on lubricating the rotator gear.Note: The grapple will only have the rotator gear if the rotator group modification has been installed.In addition to standard maintenance intervals, lubricate the grapple if the grapple has not been operated for a period of time.Daily, perform the procedures that are applicable to your machine:
