Parts that can be added to keep the pin retainer bolt from breaking. Quantities listed are for both sides.In the field, the bolt hole in the retainer can be enlarged to prevent the retainer from working against the bolt. The parts needed for either model are shown in the illustration.
For D3B Tractors, enlarge the retainer bolt hole to 24.5 mm (.96"). Insert the 1B8074 Washer (Spacer) in the hole, and put the other washer under the bolt head. Reinstall and tighten the retainer bolt.
For D4H Tractors, enlarge the retainer bolt hole to 29.5 mm (1.2"). Insert the 4L8183 Spacer in the hole, and put the other spacer under the bolt head. Reinstall and tighten the retainer bolt.
On D3B Tractors, the bolt hole for the pin retainer bolt on the left side of the C-frame is near the bottom of the pin bearing because the same bearing is used on both sides. See illustration. When the new 9W3120 Pin Assembly is used (see Reference Article), there is a possibility that the pin retainer will extend below the bearing and be damaged by rocks. To prevent this, drill and tap a new hole for the retainer bolt at about the same location as on the right side. Damage the threads at the former location so this hole cannot be used.
