Tracks
Adjust the Tracks (Machines Equipped With Carrier Rollers)
Grease is under high pressure. Grease coming out of the relief valve under pressure can penetrate the body causing injury or death.Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.Loosen the relief valve one turn only.
You must read and understand the warnings and instructions contained in the Safety section of the "Operation and Maintenance Manual," before performing any operation or maintenance procedures.Coast the machine to stop on level ground. Lightly power forward with blade in float position to assure no excess track slack remains between the rear idler and sprocket. Apply the service brake. Position the transmission control lever to Neutral. Apply the parking brake.Tracks should be adjusted under the same conditions in which the machine will be used. If packing conditions prevail on the job, the tracks should be adjusted with packing present. Place a tight string over the grouser tips from the sprocket to the front idler.Measure the distance from the string to the grouser tips at the lowest point of track sag in two places. These places are between (1) the front idler and the carrier roller, and (2) the carrier roller and sprocket.Average the two measurements. The average track sag should be: If Track Sag Is Incorrect
1. Remove the adjusting valve cover plate.2. Add grease (MPGM) through the adjusting valve until the track is tight.3. Loosen the relief valve one turn only, and allow the grease to escape. Correct track adjustment will occur when the idler retracts 10 mm (.40 in).4. Close the relief valve.5. Check the average reference sag to confirm correct adjustment.6. Install the valve cover plate.7. Repeat procedure on other track.
