(8)Engine Crankcase
Use caution when draining oil or changing filters. Hot oil or components can cause burns if they contact skin.
1. Remove the drain plug.The machine should be level. All equipment lowered with slight down pressure. TRANSMISSION LOCK LEVER and PARKING BRAKE LOCK LEVER engaged and the engine stopped. 2. Remove the used filter element.3. Clean the filter base. Make sure all of the old gasket is removed.4. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil to the seal of the new filter element. 5. Install the new filter element by hand.6. Tighten filter an additional 1/2 to 3/4 turn after the seal contacts the filter base. 7. Clean and install the drain plug. Fill the crankcase. See REFILL CAPACITIES. Check oil level. Maintain the oil level to FULL mark on dipstick. 8. Start the engine and look for leaks. 9. Stop the engine and measure the oil level. Add oil if necessary.(9)Fan Belts
The machine should be level. All equipment lowered with slight down pressure. TRANSMISSION LOCK LEVER and PARKING BRAKE LOCK LEVER engaged and the engine stopped. Inspect the condition and adjustment of the belt. The correct adjustment is 13/16 to 15/16 inches (20 to 23 mm) deflection with 25 lb. (110 N) force. Loosen the alternator mounting bolts. Move the alternator to tighten or loosen the belt.Tighten the mounting bolts. Test the adjustment.(10)Brakes
The machine should be level. All equipment lowered with slight down pressure. TRANSMISSION LOCK LEVER and PARKING BRAKE LOCK LEVER engaged and the engine stopped.Steering Clutch Brake
Measure the brake pedal free travel. Free travel of clutch pedals before brake engagement should be 4 to 5 inches.Service Brake
If free travel of either steering clutch pedal is not correct see your Caterpillar dealer for adjustment procedure.
Make certain area around machine is clear of personnel and obstructions.Test brakes on a dry level surface.Fasten seat belt before testing brakes.
1. Start engine and raise all lowered equipment.2. Depress brake pedal. 3. Pull TRANSMISSION LOCK lever up. 4. With service brake applied, shift transmission to 2nd speed forward.5. Gradually increase engine speed to full load speed. THE MACHINE MUST NOT MOVE.
If the machine begins to move, reduce engine speed and apply parking brake.
6. Reduce the engine speed to low idle, and shift the transmission to NEUTRAL. Apply the parking brake, lower the implements to ground, apply slight down pressure and stop the engine.
If the machine moved while testing, contact your Caterpillar dealer for service brake inspection and repair before returning the machine to operation.
