Installation Instructions
Use the instructions that follow to install the new pilot assembly and springs.
1. Use the dimensions given in Illustration 1 to fabricate two 3S3866 Blocks from 31.8 mm (1.25") square mild steel.
Illustration 1. 3S3866 Block.2. Fabricate two 3V9462 Bars from 8.0 mm (.32") thick mild steel. The dimensions for the 3V9462 Bars are given in Illustration 2.
Illustration 2. 3V9462 Bar.3. Remove the recoil springs using the methods in the Service Manual, Disassembly and Assembly module.4. Weld the 3S3866 Blocks and 3V9462 Bars in place using the dimensions given in Illustration 3.
Illustration 3. Location of bars and blocks.5. Install the new springs and pilot assembly. The new 1S6422 Pilot Assembly has a flat surface for seating the inner spring. See Illustration 4. The former pilot assembly can not be modified by machining a flat surface for a spring seat, because the assembled spring length will not be correct.

Make sure the press that is used is equipped with guards to hold the spring assembly in position, while it is under compression. Personal injury could result if the recoil spring moves with extreme force away from the press.
6. Illustration 5 shows the location of the new springs and pilot assembly. The new 2V9035 Spring must be assembled to a length of 571.5 mm (22.50") before installation on the idler group. Follow the methods in the Service Manual to assemble the roller track frame assemblies.
