Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

Drain the fuel from fuel filter base (2) into a suitable container for storage or for disposal.
Use Tooling (A) in order to remove fuel filter (1).

Disconnect tube assemblies (4) and (5).
Disconnect harness assemblies (6) and (7).
Remove bolts (3) and remove fuel filter base (2). Installation Procedure

Position fuel filter base (2) onto the engine. Install bolts (3).
Connect harness assemblies (6) and (7).
Connect tube assemblies (4) and (5).

Install fuel filter (1) onto fuel filter base (2). Prime the fuel system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for more information.
