REPLACE CERTAIN GOVERNOR ACTUATORS ON VARIABLE HORSEPOWER TRACTORS, Direct Drive D5B, D6D Tractors, 1265, 1300, 3060, PI3048 U-33 A-18 AU-25 C-30 O-21 priority Problem Some direct drive D5B and D6D Tractors have the variable horsepower feature, a CSM (Custom Shop Modification). The horsepower actuator mounted on the rear of the governor has a poor quality joint between the plastic body parts. The actuator is oil activated and if the weld fails a rapid oil leak occurs. This can cause engine damage or overload the drive train due to an excessive increase in horsepower. Affected Tractors And Part If Needed The following direct drive tractors are included in this Program: D5B Tractors - Special Application 26X1089, 1090, 1091, 1102, 1103, 1106-1108, 1110, 1112, 1121, 1139, 1141, 1144, 1149, 1153, 1154, 1156, 1158, 1160-1162 21Y583, 585, 588, 591-595, 597-601, 603, 607, 611, 614-616, 618, 620, 622, 623 D6D Tractors - Special Application 5X1081, 1082, 1084, 1086, 1088, 1091, 1092, 1095-1098, 1110, 1112, 1114, 1116, 1120, 1121, 1124-1126 1Y440, 441, 443, 454-459, 466-475 In addition to the preceding serial numbers, there may be other D5B or D6D Tractors with this CSM installed at the factory. Such tractors can be identified by one of the following items on the machine invoice: D5B Tractors 1Z499 Modification Arrangement - Dual HP Or 1Z505 Modification Arrangement - Dual HP D6D Tractors 1Z512 Modification Arrangement - Dual HP Or 1Z513 Modification Arrangement - Dual HP New part if needed: 1 - 5Z5955 Actuator 1 - 2W5447 Gasket Any tractors where dealers or users have installed this variable horsepower feature are also included in this PIP. Action Requested (Parts Stock Action Not Needed) First, inspect the 5Z5955 Actuator on the rear of the governor on all the affected tractors. If the letter "Z" is stamped on the metal cover face, the actuator is satisfactory and no mechanical work is needed. If the letter "Z" is not present, install and adjust the new actuator as follows: 1. Before installing the new actuator, verify that the high horsepower static rack setting is correct. See following Table. Adjust if needed - see Service Manual for procedure. 2. Install new actuator and gasket. Tighten mounting bolts. 3. Remove metal dust cover from actuator. 4. Move governor control to high idle. 5. Adjust actuator to fully retracted position by tightening the washer-type adjusting nut. 6. Adjust low horsepower static rack setting by turning the adjusting nut counterclockwise, which extends the actuator rod, until the rack reading decreases to the specified setting.
