Use a screwdriver to remove retaining ring (3) and plug (2) at each end of the steering link (4).

Install Tooling (A) to hold the ball stud (5) while the locknut (6) is being loosened.

Use Tooling (B) to remove locknut (6). Remove locknut (6).

Use Tooling (C) to remove ball stud (5). Refer to M0080743 Tool Operating Manual , "Hammer Group" and , M0083627 , "Hydraulic Power Unit" Tool Operating Manual for the correct procedure to remove the ball stud. Repeat the step for the remaining steering link ball studs.
Use Tooling (D) to support the steering link. The weight of the steering link is approximately 120 kg (265 lb).
Remove the steering link .
Repeat Step 1 through 7 to remove the opposite steering link.Installation Procedure

(1) Available SubstituteNote: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Verify that all the components are clean and free of foreign material prior to installation. Inspect all components for wear and replace the components, if necessary.

Apply Tooling (E) to the threads of ball stud (5) and on taper of ball stud.
Use Tooling (D) to support the steering link. The weight of the steering link is approximately 120 kg (265 lb).
Install the steering link.

Install locknut (6) on ball stud (5), as shown.
Repeat Step 6 for the ball stud on the opposite end of steering link (4).
Install Tooling (A) to hold the ball stud while the locknut is being tightened.

Use Tooling (B) to install locknut (6). Tighten the locknut to a torque of 2550 100 N m (1884 74 lb ft).

Install plug (2) and retaining ring (3) onto the ball stud. Use a soft hammer to seat the retaining ring.

Connect lubrication hose (1) to the plug (2).
Repeat Steps 8 through 11 to complete installation of steering link (4).
Repeat Steps 1 through 12 to install the opposite steering link.
After the steering links are installed, check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Steering System" for the correct procedure.
