(9) Duo-Cone seals The outer axles transfer power to the final drives. The final drives transfer the power to the tracks. The final drives increase torque by a speed reduction through the planetary gears.Outer axle shaft (1) sends power to the final drive. Sun gear (5) is part of outer axle shaft (1). The rotation of the axle shaft and of the sun gear turns planetary gears (3).Planetary gears (3) are connected to planetary carrier (6) by planetary shafts (4). Ring gear (7) is a stationary component. As planetary gears (3) turn, planetary gears (3) move around the inside of ring gear (7).The movement of planetary gears (3) around the inside of ring gear (7) turns planetary carrier (6). Planetary carrier (6) is fastened to hub (8). The rotation of hub (8) sends power to sprocket segments (2) and to the track.The oil level in the final drives is maintained through a filler plug. All components receive lubrication oil as the gears move. The gears throw oil on all of the components (splash lubrication).
