start by:a) remove vibration damper and pulley The front seal and wear sleeve must both be removed because they must be installed at the same time. The radiator guard and fan were removed for better photo illustration only.1. Remove the front crankcase guard. Weight is 260 lb. (117 kg). 2. Put holes (2) around seal (1) with a sharp punch as shown. Remove seal (1) with tool (A). 3. Install 5P7314 Ring (3) from tool group (B) in the space where the seal was removed.
Do not damage the crankshaft.
4. Use 5P7312 Distorter (4), a .50" (12.7 mm) socket and a ratchet. Put the end of the distorter in the space where the seal was removed. Turn the distorter to cause distortion to the wear sleeve. Move the distorter to another position and turn the distorter again. Do this procedure until the sleeve is loose.5. Remove the distorter and ring. Remove the sleeve.Install Crankshaft Front Seal And Wear Sleeve
The wear sleeve and seal must be installed at the same time.1. Clean the crankshaft and timing gear cover. 2. Put locator (1) from tooling (A) in position on the crankshaft and install three bolts (2) to hold it in place. Install spacer (3) from tooling (A) on the locator. 3. Put clean engine oil on the seal lip and on the outside diameter of wear sleeve (4). Install the seal on the wear sleeve with the lip of the seal toward the side of the wear sleeve that has the chamfer on the inside diameter as shown.4. Use 8M8060 Quick Cure Primer to remove any oil from inside diameter "X" of the wear sleeve and surface "Y" of the crankshaft. Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on surfaces "X" and "Y". 5. Put the wear sleeve and seal on locator (1) with the lip of the seal in as shown. Put installer (5) on the locator as shown. Put lubricant on the threads and between installer (5) and nut (6). Install nut (6) on the locator.6. Use tooling (A) to push the wear sleeve and seal on to the crankshaft until the installer is against the spacer on locator (1). The wear sleeve and seal will then be in the correct location. The dimension between the front surface of the crankshaft and the front surface of the seal must be .05 .02 in. (1.3 0.5 mm). The face of the seal will be past the end of the crankshaft.7. Remove tooling (A).end by:a) install vibration damper and pulley
