Preparing to disassemble the bearing shell
Remove the bearing RTD (PT100) sensor in order to remove the lower side of the bearing shell.
Loosen the bolts on the upper side of the bearing housing. Remove the upper bearing housing.Note: The inner and outer labyrinth oil seal and the bearing shell are visible after removing the upper bearing housing.

Removing the upperside of shell, the seal, and the oil ring
Remove the two bolts and stop pins holding the two halves of the bearing shells together.
Pull up on the top bearing shell to remove. Remove the labyrinth oil seal by disconnecting the seal spring and removing both halves.
Loosen the bolts on the oil ring and remove.
Remove the bearing shell. The weight of the rotor rests on the lower side of the bearing shell. The rotor must be lifted in order to remove the bearing shell.
Use a hydraulic lifting device to support the weight of the rotor. Lift the rotor off of the bearing shell.Note: A shaft extension can be used to assist in lifting the rotor and may be necessary on the non-drive end.
Remove the bearing shell.
The top and bottom bearing shells, oil ring, labyrinth oil seal, and upper side of the bearing housing are all removed.Reinstalling the new bearing shell
Lubricate the shaft and bearing housing where they contact the bearing shell. Refer to the bearing nameplate for appropriate lubricate.
Clean the new bearing shell using a cleaning agent and clean cloth. Do not leave any fabric fibers on the bearing shell.
Use caution when sliding the bearing shell into the bearing housing to avoid hand injuries.

Installing the bearing shell
Install the lower side of the bearing shell first. Place the bearing shell onto the shaft. Slide the bearing shell into the lower bearing housing.Note: Face the side with the serial number towards the shaft end.
Ensure that the bearing shell and housing are level with each other.
Release the hydraulic lifting device slowly to allow the rotor to rest on the lower bearing shell. Do not allow the bearing shell to move and ensure that it stays level with the bearing housing while the rotor is being lowered. Press on both sides of the bearing shell for stability while the rotor is lowered.
Apply sealant, such as Hylomar Universal Blue or equivalent, on both halves of the labyrinth seal. Install the labyrinth seal.

Place the labyrinth seal in the proper position. The slotted half of the labyrinth should face toward the inside of the bearing housing (towards the shaft end) in the 6 o'clock position. Ensure that the blocked half of the labyrinth is in the 12 o'clock position and is facing toward the inside of the bearing housing (towards the shaft end). Refer to Illustration 4.
Wrap the seal spring around both halves of the labyrinth seal to hold the halves together. Do not put the spring in the same channel as the sealant.
