Each seal consists of three parts. The area of heat transfer (1) is the largest portion of the seal. The ring seal surrounds the port that transfers the fluid through the channel plate. Ring seal (2) forms the manifold in the engine oil cooler. The links of seal (3) connect the area of heat transfer to the area of fluid transfer. The links do not provide a seal for the engine oil cooler.Seals (7) are clipped to channel plates (4) on one side. The seal rests in groove (5) in the channel plate. The seal is held in place by two prongs (6). When the seal is correctly installed, the two prongs slip under the edge of the plate and prongs (6) hold the seal firmly in place.The number one plate in the engine oil cooler requires a special seal that can be fabricated from two standard seals. Since fluid does not flow between the first channel plate and the frame plate, a ring seal must be placed around all four holes in the first channel plate. In order to fabricate the special seal, cut the links and remove the ring seals from one of the seals. Clip the individual ring seals into position on the frame plate's side of the first plate. Clip the second seal to the plate. Cut the area of heat transfer of the seal in order to clear the ring seal.Channel Plates
The channel plates separate the lube oil and the coolant. Heat is transferred from the engine oil on one side of the plate to the coolant on the opposite side of the plate. There are two different types of plates within the engine oil cooler. The plates are oriented differently.

The 195-8706 Service Kit is required for disassembling and assembling this engine oil cooler. This service kit includes extensions for the carrier bars and longer bolts. The extensions for the carrier bars help support the package of channel plates and seals of the engine oil
