1 Put support assembly (1) in horizontal position in a bench vise and tighten the vise.2 Put several shop towels or rags (four minimum) over the end of the cylinder in the vise as shown.3 Measure 38.10 mm (1.50") in from the fixed end of the cylinder; use a center punch and a hammer to drive the punch through the towels and into the cylinder until the gas just begins to leak off.4 Hold the towel and punch in place until all the gas has been released. Then, slowly remove the punch. The released oil will be absorbed by the towel.5 With the towel over the hole, push shaft (2) completely into the cylinder to remove any remaining oil.6 Remove the assembly from the vise and discard (throw away).
