ACTION REQUIRED
Replace the swing drive pinion shaft. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Drive - Disassemble/Assemble" procedure for the specific machine.
Refer to KENR9844, Disassembly and Assembly, procedure for swing drive removal and installation, also needed to complete this Rework Procedure.
1. Perform a visual check from the inspection hole or swing drive mounting hole. Check the gear contact condition on all of the swing gear teeth (85 teeth). Refer to Image1.
- If only hard contact is found, no further inspection is required. The original bearing can be used. Refer to Image2.
- If a peeling like scratch is found, inspection is required. Step 2 will need to be performed. Refer to Image3.
2. Perform penetrant inspection from the inspection hole or swing drive mounting hole. Select the most heavy worn five teeth for cracking. Refer to Image4.
If all teeth have the same wear, engineering recommends that you choose five teeth. Refer to Image5.
- If no cracking is found on the five teeth, the original bearing can be used.
- If cracking is found on the teeth, swing bearing replacement is required.

Note: For machines with less than 500 hours SMH, the original part can be used without an inspection.
Note: For machines over 500 hours SMH, an additional 4.0 hours will be allowed in order to complete a detailed inspection of the swing bearing and all teeth.
