Inspect the fan drive belt for cracks. Inspect the belt for missing pieces. Inspect the belt for frayed areas. Inspect the belt for wear. Replace the belt if any of these conditions exist.
Check the belt tension of the fan drive belt midway between the crankshaft pulley and the alternator pulley. A belt that is adjusted correctly will deflect approximately 10 mm (0.39 inch).
If necessary, loosen bolts (1) and (2) and move the alternator until the correct tension is obtained. Tighten the bolts and recheck the belt tension.
After you install a new belt, check the tension again after 30 minutes of operation.
