Before actual use of the 8T910 Fuel Sulfur Analyzer Group, it is necessary to break in the combustion chamber to seal the internal surface. If the combustion chamber is not broken in correctly, inaccurate test results will occur. Inaccurate test results occur when the sulfur mixture is absorbed into the chamber's inner surface during initial tests.
Perform the test procedure using the 8T5179 Fuel Sample (1% sulfur in standard diesel fuel) until the 8T5177 Sulfur Dioxide Gas Detector Tubes give a consistent 1 0.1% sulfur in fuel reading. It may take 10 to 20 samples to correctly break in the chamber. The 8T5177 Gas Detector Tubes that come with the fuel sulfur analyzer are intended for this purpose.
These gas detector tubes have a shelf life of approximately one year from the date of manufacture. The expiration date is stamped on the gas detector tube. The 8T5177 Gas Detector Tubes that have expired dates can be used for the break-in process. Use the gas detector tubes that come with the 8T910 Fuel Sulfur Analyzer Group for breaking in the combustion chamber regardless of the expiration date on the tubes.
New 8T5177 Gas Detector Tubes with current dates must be used for actual fuel sampling.
When removing or installing the 8T5167 Igniter Assembly, be sure to disconnect the power lead. Do not attempt to remove or install the igniter with the power lead connected. Refer to the illustration.
