Removal Procedure
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
To prevent dirt and contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. This action also lessens the chance of oil spills.
The pressure in the accumulator for the front and rear service brakes must be discharged before the accumulator is removed. Turn the ignition key to the on position. Install a pressure gauge on both pressure test points for the front and the rear brakes. The gauges must read pressure from zero to 20684 kPa (3000 psi). Activate the service brake control valve repeatedly until the pressure in the gauges is at zero. Open the accumulator purge valves in order to verify that all of the pressure has been relieved.
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system. Remove the O-ring seal from the hose.
