Inspect - Fill Reservoir
1. Inspect the windshield wiper blades. Replace them if they are worn or damaged, or if streaking occurs.
When operating in freezing temperatures, use Caterpillar or a nonfreezing window washer solvent. Any commercially available nonfreezing window washer solvent can be used.
2. Fill the windshield washer bottle, located in the cab.Fuses and Circuit Breaker
Inspect Fuses - Reset Circuit Breakers
1. Remove and inspect the fuse. Replace any fuse in which the filament has separated. 2. Reset the circuit breaker if it has opened.
If it is necessary to replace fuses frequently, or if the circuit breaker requires frequent resetting, contact your Caterpillar dealer.

Service Ether Cylinder
Ether is poisonous and flammable.Breathing ether vapors or repeated contact of ether with skin can cause personal injury.Use ether only in well ventilated areas.Use ether with care to avoid fires.Do not smoke while changing ether cylinders.Do not store ether cylinders in the operator's compartment or living areas.Do not store ether cylinders in direct sunlight or at temperatures above 39°C (102°F).Discard ether cylinders properly. Do not puncture or burn ether cylinders.Keep ether cylinders out of the reach of unauthorized personnel.
The ether cylinder valve is located on the left side of the engine enclosure.Typical procedure shown
1. Remove protective plug (1) from the ether cylinder valve. Store the plug in threaded holder (2). 2. Install the gasket into the valve.3. Screw the ether cylinder (3) into the valve hand tight. Do not use any tools to tighten it. Fasten the cylinder clamp (4) securely around the cylinder.Differentials and Final Drives
Check Oil Level
Hot oil and components can cause personnel injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Operate the machine for a few minutes to allow the lubricant to reach a common level, before measuring the lubricant level.1. With the machine on dry and level ground. Lower the bucket with slight down pressure. Apply the parking/secondary brake. Stop the engine. 2. Remove the fill plug from the front axle housing. If the lubricant level is above the fill plug opening, do not drain the lubricant to the bottom of the fill plug opening. Install the fill plug. 3. If the lubricant level is below the fill plug opening, add lubricant to bring the lubricant level to the bottom of the fill plug opening. 4. Remove the rear differential fill plug slowly from the rear axle housing.5. Maintain the oil level to the bottom of the fill plug openings. Clean and install both fill plugs.Bucket Teeth
Inspect - Replace Tips
Block the bucket before changing the bucket teeth.To prevent possible injury to the eyes, wear a protective face shield when striking the pin.The pin, when struck, can fly out and cause injury to nearby personnel.
1. Drive the pin out of the tip from the retainer side of the tip.
Inspect - Fill Reservoir
