Introduction
This Special Instruction is intended to give information on pre-assembling the pinion shaft on well stimulation pumps.Safety Section
Do not perform any procedure outlined in this Special Instruction unless you have read and understand all of the information in this Special Instruction.Ensure that you are using the proper safety equipment when using a torch to heat up the parts as outlined in this Instruction.Pinion Bearing Installation
Note: Thoroughly clean any excess oil or preservative from the pinion shaft and pinion gear teeth.Note: Check the pinion bearing surface and shoulder for any discrepancies.Note: Clean excess oil off the pinion roller bearings before heating them.

(1) Pinion bearing
Place the roller bearings in a dry oven or induction heater and heat the bearings to 121° C (250° F) to 135° C (275° F). Once the bearings reach the specified temperature, install onto the pinion shaft. Ensure the inner race of the bearing sits flush against the pinion bearing shoulder.
Rotate roller bearing to confirm it moves freely.
Allow the roller bearings to cool off before installing into power frame. Pinion Bearing Removal
Once the pinion has been removed from the frame, mount on a roller stand.

Using a rosebud torch, heat the bearing evenly as the pinion is spun on the roller stand.
When the bearing becomes loose, remove bearing by hand. Note: If the bearing gets stuck, lightly tap the bearing with a rubber mallet until the bearing becomes free.
