The tachometer drive does not require periodic lubrication. If an angle adapter is used, the adapter must be lubricated periodically. See the Lubrication and Maintenance Chart for intervals and lubricant.

1. Clean the area around the plug in the angle adapter.2. Remove the plug and install a grease fitting.3. Lubricate the adapter; two strokes with a hand gun.4. Remove the fitting and install the plug.
TACHOMETER DRIVESafety Shut Off
The safety shut off must be checked to proper functioning if and when needed. To prevent damage to your engine while making the required test, only authorized personnel should perform the checks. Contact your Caterpillar dealer.Fan And Generator Belts
Check all belts by applying a 25 pound force midway between the driving and driven pulley and measuring the deflection. Compare the measured deflection to the value given in the chart and adjust if necessary. Lubricating Fan Drive
Lubricate the fan drive bearing with grease; 1 or 2 strokes, 1 fitting.
