Problem
The side mounted support piece for the muffler on the D3C III, D4C III, D5C III, 933, and 939 Tractors is bolted to a boss on the aluminum intake manifold. Due to stress imposed on the manifold by the bracket, the boss may crack.

Rework Procedure
Twisted Muffler Support Bracket - (Group 1)
1. Remove the left side engine cover and inspect the muffler support bracket attached to the intake manifold. If the bracket is bolted onto the pedestal between the second and third fuel line then proceed to Step 2. If the bracket is bolted onto the pedestal behind the fifth fuel line, follow the rework procedure for the 1164654 Bracket - (Group 2).2. Remove the twisted muffler support bracket.3. Inspect the intake manifold adjacent to the old muffler support bracket for cracking of pedestal mounting boss, where the bracket was bolted onto the manifold.4. If the manifold is cracked, replace the 1078360 Manifold using a new 1073664 Gasket. The new support bracket and spacers will be mounted to three manifold mounting flanges to provide a more robust joint.
5. Remove the 1030664 Muffler Support Assembly by removing the 5 bolts.6. Carefully remove the upper mounting plate for the support bracket by either grinding or using a fine cutting torch. Grind the affected surfaces to remove all of the old weld material.7. Temporarily remount the 1030664 Muffler Support Assembly and assemble the new 1482518 Support Assembly to the intake manifold at positions "B" using the 2W3484 Spacers, the 5P4116 Washers, and 8T3647 Bolts.8. Lightly bolt the upper mounting plate that was removed from the muffler support assembly to the upper end of the 1482518 Support Assembly. By slightly loosening the lower bolt and moving the plate and the support, a position will be found where the upper mounting plate will lie flat against the muffler support assembly. Mark this position on the support assembly.9. Remove the muffler support assembly and the upper mounting plate and take to a welding area. Tack-weld the upper mounting plate to the support assembly and then once again temporarily reinstall the assembly on
