The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS5313" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the August 18, 1997 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Parts Needed and Service Claim Allowances.
Termination Date

The G3606, G3608, G3612, and G3616 Engine cylinder heads may experience exhaust valve chordal failures due to chordal and radial cracking of the valve head.

Parts Needed
1 - 0R9264 Head Group1 - 1210781 Gasket Kit Factory approval is required to use a new cylinder head.
Action Required
Remove the failed and install the new cylinder head using standard practices.
Restart the engine and tune the new cylinder using standard procedures.
Return the failed cylinder heads and all associated failed hardware valve parts with a copy of the service report and a summary of the maintenance operational history to Caterpillar.
The maintenance summary should include valve lash setting data, stem projection data (if available), type of oil used, exhaust port temperature readings, etcetera.

Service Claim Allowances
The warranty period for this type of failure is being extended to 24 months from the commissioning date. Subsequent damage caused by the broken pieces of valve will also be covered.
