use of an identification code on exchange or reconditioned components can be important to both the dealer and the customer. The identification can include the dealer's identification code and a date code. See the example. The dealer's identification code can be used to show which dealer and/or branch reconditioned the component. The date code can be used to indicate the date the component was reconditioned and/or the purchase date. These dates can be used for quality control and for warranty periods.
The identification code can be put on a machined surface. If the surface gets covered with a gasket, the code must be completely covered by the gasket during machine operation. This will prevent the possibility of any kind of leakage. If it is not possible to put the code on a machined surface, it can be put on any outside (exterior) surface.
It is recommended that steel type (letters and numbers) be used to put the code on the components. Several different sizes of type and holders are available. A typical example of a holder and type are shown in the illustration.
