PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE ROTOR BRAKE ON CERTAIN RM-500 RECLAIMER MIXERS

Dear Caterpillar Product Owner:
The Rotor Brake assembly part number 270-7211 needs to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing Rotor Brake can wear prematurely and require frequent adjustment. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 27Sep2007 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the Service Manual as necessary.
1. Move the machine to a flat level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Move the cab or platform to the extreme left side of the machine and open the right platform access door.
3. Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
4. Remove the rear belly pan from the machine frame.
5. Turn the engine start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
6. Locate the electrical circuit breaker box on the left side of the machine and turn the rotor service switch to the ON position. Turning this switch to the ON position will release the rotor brake so it can be removed from the mounting bracket.
7. Remove the bolts holding the rotor brake to the mounting bracket.
8. Turn the rotor service switch to the OFF position, doing this will relieve the hydraulic pressure on the rotor brake piston.
9. Remove the hydraulic supply hose from the rotor brake.
10. Install the new rotor brake and attach the hydraulic supply line.
11. Follow instructions Rotor Brake Adjust of the Operation and Maintenance Manual KEBU7524 for proper adjustment of the rotor brake.
12. Test the rotor brake for proper function.
13. Install the rear belly pan on the machine.
