Foot Brake Adjustment Procedure
The foot brake is a secondary system and not intended to be used as the service brake (primary means of stopping the machine). The inherent braking ability of the hydrostatic transmission is the primary means of stopping these machines.1. Drive the machine to an open area.2. Locate the needle valve in the brake system. See the illustration. The needle valve on the AP-1200 is located on the top of the differential. On the AP-800, it is located on wall to the rear of the differential.
Location of the needle valve in the foot pedal brake system.3. Loosen the lock nut on the needle valve. Turn the needle valve clockwise, until the valve is closed. Then, open the valve 1/2 turn.4. On the AP-1200, place the transmission selector switch on "2". On the AP-800, place the transmission selector switch on "pave" and the motor speed selector switch on "high".5. Run the engine at high idle.
The machine may stop suddenly when the foot brake is applied. To avoid personal injury, the operator should be seated and braced before applying the foot brake. Remove all loose articles from the machine.
6. Accelerate to full speed and apply the foot brake.7. When the brake pedal is depressed, the ground drive pump should destroke as the brakes apply.A. If the brakes apply before the pump destrokes, the brakes will chatter and the engine will pull down. If this occurs, close the needle valve (turn clockwise) 1/8 turn and repeat the stopping procedure.B. If the engine does not pull down or no brake noise is heard, open the needle valve (turn counterclockwise) 1/8 turn and repeat the stopping procedure. Repeat until brake noise is heard, then close the needle valve 1/8 turn.8. Tighten the lock nut on the needle valve.
