(2) Inlet (3) Ring (4) Rotor (5) Vane (6) Outlet (7) Drive shaft (8) InsertThe hydraulic implement pump is a three-section (cartridge) vane-type pump. The pump is located on the right, rear side of the flywheel housing. Each cartridge contains the following components: inlet and outlet support plates, seal packs, flex plates, rotor ring, a rotor, vanes and inserts.Reference: For more information on vane-type pumps, refer to Special Instruction, SEHS9353.Because all pump sections (cartridges) are identical, only the description of one cartridge is given. The rotor is driven inside the cartridge by the shaft. As the rotor speed increases, centrifugal action causes the vanes to follow the cam shape (outline with a curve) of the rotor ring. The system pressure behind the vanes and inserts keep the vanes and inserts pushed out to make sure that there is no leakage around the rotor ring surface during normal operation. The rotor ring has a shape (contour) with two chambers which are located opposite of each other. The chambers are made (formed) to prevent any hydraulic loads on the bearings. Rotation of the vanes and rotation of the rotor causes the chamber area between vanes to increase in size at the inlet (large diameter) section of the rotor ring. The increase in size causes a low pressure or vacuum in the chamber. The pressure difference causes oil to flow into the inlet. The oil is stopped between the vanes while the vanes rotate. As the chamber size decreases at the pressure (small diameter) section of the ring, the oil is sent with force through passages in the pressure plate to the outlet and into the hydraulic system.Air Bleed Valve
An air bleed valve is located in the line from the drive end section of the pump. Its purpose is to remove (bleed) air from the pressure side of the drive end pump section. The air bleed valve operates only when the machine is first started, either when it is new or after repair work has been done.
