Removal Procedure
Illustration 1 g00855983
Permanent Magnet Pilot Excited Generator (1) Pilot Exciter Armature StatorNote: On permanent magnet pilot excited generators, pilot exciter armature stator (1) must be removed before the generator is separated from the engine. This prevents damaging the permanent magnet or the shaft due to the small clearance between the pilot exciter stator and the rotor.

(1) Terminal Strips (2) Engine Harness
Disconnect the engine harness wires from terminal strips (1) and the control panel. Remove engine harness (2) from the generator enclosure.
Illustration 3 g00855990
(3) Ground Straps
Disconnect ground straps (3) from the generator.

(4) Drip Cover (5) Enclosure (6) Screen (7) Bolts (8) Cover
Remove drip cover (4) and screen (6) from the generator.
Remove bolts (7) and remove enclosure (5) from the generator. Remove cover (8) from the generator.
Illustration 5 g00855997
(9) Bolts
Remove bolts (9) which fasten the generator coupling plates and the fan to the engine flywheel.
Illustration 6 g00855999
Support the engine for the removal of the generator.
Illustration 7 g00856000
(10) Bolts (11) Bolts
Attach a hoist to the generator. The point of attachment and the weight vary with the size of the generator. A strap must be used on smaller generators when a shackle is not provided.
Remove bolts (10) which fasten the generator to the base.
Remove bolts (11) which fasten the generator housing to the flywheel housing.
Separate the generator from the engine. Remove the generator.
