The 221-4560 Accumulator Gp has a smaller protector over nitrogen charging valve (1). The newer 221-4560 Accumulator Gp functions in the same way as the 6E-3450 Accumulator Gp .Accumulator (2) provides the cushion for the axle suspension system. The accumulator has a sealed piston that moves up and down inside the bore of the accumulator. The chamber above the piston has a charge of dry nitrogen gas. The charge of dry nitrogen gas is delivered into the accumulator through valve (1). Oil from the pump and the leveling valve comes through outlet (3) into the chamber below the piston. This oil moves the piston which compresses the dry nitrogen gas.The accumulator provides a constant supply of oil to the load cylinders. Also, the accumulator absorbs sudden shocks that are caused by the load cylinders. This provides the wheel tractor with a smoother ride.
