Introduction
The problem listed below has two possible solutions. Perform these solutions in the order given.Problem
Oil has been reported leaking from the joint between the hydraulic tank and the strainer on some machines. The o-ring, which is part of the 254-1098 Strainer , is not sealing against the tank. This condition exists even when the strainer has been torqued correctly.Solution
The seat for the o-ring that is machined into the hydraulic tank could be suspect on a low number of machines. These leaks develop over time, even when the tank passes leak testing prior to installation.If the hydraulic tank is found to be leaking at the strainer o-ring, follow the instructions below. If the first procedure fails to correct the leak, then the hydraulic tank will need to be replaced.
Drain the hydraulic tank. Capture the oil in clean containers for reuse.
Remove the 254-1098 Strainer from the tank.
Replace the original o-ring with the 7F-2122 O-Ring Seal .This new o-ring is a larger diameter than the original o-ring. The new o-ring is a tight fit around the strainer. Expect the new o-ring internal diameter to appear to be too small. This condition is normal .
Torque the strainer to 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).Note: The tighter fit of the new o-ring will stop any extruding of the o-ring during the torquing process.
Refill the hydraulic tank and recheck for leaks.Replacing the o-ring is the preferred route to take as this procedure will save many hours of downtime and inconvenience to the customer. This procedure has been performed on several customer machines with excellent results.If the above repair does not correct the leak, the hydraulic tank will need to be replaced. Replacing the hydraulic tank will require removing the cab.Appendix
