for Caterpillar Diesel and Natural Gas Engines are now packaged in kits that are more convenient and economical to use for repairs. Each kit contains the gaskets necessary for a specific repair.
There are two types of gasket kits: Basic Gasket Kits and Component Gasket Kits. The four basic gasket kits are for the upper structure, central and lower structures, front structure and rear structure for each engine. Component gasket kits are available separately for components in the cooling system, air induction, fuel and lubrication systems, and for attachments.
With the previous type of packaging, you would get one gasket kit with all necessary gaskets for a complete engine repair. This caused confusion about which gaskets to use, time was wasted in trying to sort them and many gaskets had to be thrown away, resulting in waste.
With the new method, the gasket kits are for a particular repair and you get only the gaskets you need.
For example, cylinder liner bands and seals are not included in the basic gasket kits. Individual cylinder liner seal kits give you the band and seals required to replace one cylinder liner. For this reason, you will need a quantity of six cylinder liner seal kits for a major engine overhaul on a six cylinder engine.
