Some 2P4005 Oil Filter Assemblies with date codes of 06/04/97 and older were manufactured with an excessive amount of Plastisol sealant. This resulted in a sealant build up on the inside of the filter. This sealant build up could come off and go directly into the engine lubrication system.
Action Required
Inspect all 2P4005 Oil Filter Assemblies located in Parts Stock with date codes of 06/04/97 and older for excessive sealant.
Excessive Plastisol sealant can be seen by looking into the threaded hole on the top of the oil filter assembly. Unacceptable filters have a brown/gray sealant layer near the top of the threaded hole or protruding through the center tube holes. Only bare metal will be visible on acceptable filters.
If any Plastisol sealant is visible on the outside of the filter center tube or on the inside edge of the end cap, the filters should be Destroyed.
TEPS/MEPS dealers are reimbursed for recalled Parts Stock by returning the affected Parts Stock to their administering Caterpillar dealer for replacement.
Service Claim Allowances
Submit one claim for all 2P4005 Oil Filter Assemblies removed from Parts Stock.
US and Canadian Dealers Only - When submitting a Parts Stock claim use 99Z00007 in the Product Identification Number Field.
Parts Disposition
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
