New oil pressure maps with low oil pressure and very low oil pressure are now available in OCT99 and NOV99 FLASH files for the C-10 and the C-12 Truck Engines. The new oil pressure maps compensate for the oil pressure drop. The oil pressure drop is caused by the relocation of the oil pressure sensor from the engine's right side to the engine's left side. The oil pressure drop is due to the flow of oil through the following components before reaching the oil pressure sensor:
The main bearings
The rod bearings
The camshaft bearings
The cylinder headNote: On model years that are earlier than 1999, the location of the sensor is on the right side of the engine. On the 1999 model year and newer model years, the location of the sensor is on the left side of the engine.The presence of previous oil pressure maps, that are JUL99 and older FLASH files, may lead to the false logging of low oil pressure events. This condition may exist on C-10 and C-12 Truck Engines for the 1999 model year. Truck engines that were built for the 2000 model year have the new oil pressure maps.Note: On C-10 Truck Engines or C-12 Truck Engines for the 1999 model year, ensure that the OCT99 software has been FLASHED into the ADEM 2000 ECM before troubleshooting any low oil pressure events. When the engine is coming off of a hard pull, the quick release of the throttle pedal may result in a fast drop in the oil pressure. This may lead to the false logging of a low oil pressure event with the JUL99 and older oil pressure maps.The new maps in the OCT99 FLASH files will correct the false logging of low oil pressure event diagnostic codes, 100-01 or 100-11.Note: The FIND system or SISWEB can be used in order to determine the correct ADEM 2000 FLASH file part number.Note: The following information pertains to Caterpillar Dealers and Caterpillar TEPS Dealers only. The reporting by the SIMS of any FLASH programming that has been performed in order to address the low oil pressure events should use the special substitute group number 7937. Report the substitute part number SP0775 as the part that is causing the failure.
