20 °C (68 °F)    The approach temperature is calculated by subtracting the inlet temperature of the coolant from the outlet temperature of the oil .When the approach temperature of the engine oil cooler is calculated, the regulators must be in the open position. This prevents engine oil from bypassing the engine oil cooler. If the approach temperature exceeds the rated temperatures, disassemble the engine oil cooler and clean the engine oil cooler.Use the following procedure in order to measure the engine oil temperature.
Open the regulators in the regulating valve.
Start the engine and run the engine at a set load until the engine oil temperature stabilizes.
Measure the cooling water temperature at the inlet of the engine oil cooler.
Measure the engine oil temperature at the outlet of the engine oil cooler. Measure the engine oil temperature between the outlet of the engine oil cooler and the regulating valve.In addition to increasing the approach temperature across the engine oil cooler, dirty plates or fouled plates will cause the differential pressure across the oil side of the engine oil cooler to rise. The rated pressure drop across the engine oil cooler is 76.5 kPa (11 psi) (oil side).Use the following procedure in order to measure the differential pressure of the engine oil cooler.
Open the regulators in the regulating valve.
Connect a differential pressure gauge to the oil inlet and to the oil outlet of the engine oil cooler.
Start the engine and run the engine at rated speed.
Measure the differential pressure across the engine oil cooler. If the differential pressure exceeds 76.5 kPa (11 psi), clean the engine oil cooler.
