The lockup clutch function for direct drive is controlled electrically. When the Power Train ECM energizes the lockup clutch solenoid, the lockup clutch in the torque converter mechanically connects the torque converter input shaft to the torque converter output shaft. This function efficiently connects the power train to the engine.The lockup clutch function can be enabled/disabled using the torque converter lockup clutch switch.When the joystick control is moved to the dump position, the dump pilot pressure sensor sends a signal to the Power Train ECM. The Power Train ECM will disengage the torque converter lockup clutch.The lockup clutch solenoid is an output of the Power Train ECM. The lockup clutch solenoid turns the lockup clutch on and off. When the lockup clutch is deactivated, the lockup clutch solenoid is de-energized. When the lockup clutch is activated, the lockup clutch solenoid is energized. The lockup clutch solenoid has a connector with two contacts. The lockup clutch solenoid receives power from the connector contact J1-58 of the Power Train ECM. The torque limiting function protects the power train from excessive torque loads when the transmission is in first gear forward or first gear reverse. The Power Train ECM receives signals from the converter output speed sensor, the Engine ECM receives signals from the engine output speed sensor. The Engine ECM will limit engine speed.The engine output speed is directly proportional to the torque that is transmitted through the torque converter.
