TRACK-TYPE TRACTOR,
Information:
If a chain must be let out or taken up more than 6 inches (15 cm) to obtain the correct sag, offset links can be used. Use the links in pairs (one on each chain, between the same two elevator flights). To Reduce Sag:
1. Remove two bolts, and open the access cover located on the elevator frame. 2. Lubricate the fitting with a grease gun and multi-purpose type grease, until the correct sag is attained. Close and secure the cover. To Increase Sag:
1. Open the access cover.
Never visually inspect to see if grease is escaping. Always measure the sag to determine if the slack has increased.Loosen the fitting one turn only.
2. Loosen the fitting, one turn ONLY, to allow grease to escape.3. Tighten the fitting when the correct sag is reached.4. Close and secure the access door.If the correct elevator chain sag cannot be obtained, consult your Caterpillar dealer.(72)Cushion Hitch Accumulator
Test the nitrogen precharge pressure.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the correct test procedure and the recommended pressure.(73)Air Conditioner
Clean or change the air conditioner filters when a reduction in air circulation is noticed. 1. To clean the recirculating filters, loosen the thumb-screws and remove the panel at the top of the cab. 2. Remove the 2 sponge-type filters.3. Wash the filters in clean, warm water and a household detergent.4. Rinse them in clean water, and allow them to dry.5. Install the filters and the panel. 6. Unlock the filter covers on the front and rear of the unit on the cab roof. 7. Remove and discard the two used filter elements. Install new elements. Close and secure the doors. 8. Inspect the condition of the blades of the circulating fans. Make sure they are free of dirt and debris. 9. Check the four drain tubes from the drip pan at each corner of the unit. Be sure they are not clogged with debris.(74)Circuit Breakers and Fuses
Reset the circuit breakers or replace blown fuses if an electrical system fails. Push the button to reset the circuit breaker if the tractor electrical system fails. Push the button to reset the breaker if the scraper electrical system fails. If the circuit breaker opens again, have repairs made.
Always replace fuses with the same type and capacity fuse that was removed.
The tractor fuse block is located behind the panel at the front of the operator's compartment. If a circuit fails, remove the panel. Replace blown fuses (fuses with separated elements). If the scraper instrument panel lights and gauges do not function, check the fuse. Replace the fuse if it has failed.(75)Draft Arm Flange Bolts
Tighten the bolts when looseness is noticed, or is suspected.Torque the bolts to 520 60 lb. ft. (707 82 N m).(76)Water Separator (Scraper Engine)
When the inside of the water separator becomes contaminated enough that the water level cannot be seen through the transparent cover, install a new element.1. Stop the engine, clean the separator and the surrounding area. 2. Close the fuel supply valve. 3. Open the vent valve (1) and the
