EXCAVATOR,
Information:
Introduction
This special instruction contains the information that is required to determine if an upper hitch pin and sleeve bearing has excessive wear. This instruction also provides specific instructions for disassembly and assembly of these specific components. The new upper hitch pin provides a improved surface finish. This will reduce the wear on the sleeve bearing.

Illustration 1 g01486855
A dial indicator with a magnetic base should be attached to the rear frame. The indicator stem should be positioned against the front frame. The indicator is used to measure the movement in the upper hitch pin. See Illustration 1.
Illustration 2 g01486876
The indicator should be zeroed with the decking blade and the grapple raised off the ground. Use a ten ton jack to lift the machine in the middle until the dial indicator movement stops. Record the dial indicator measurement, which should be a negative number. Lower and remove the jack. Then lift the machine off the ground by using the blade and the grapple. This will remove the clearance in the joint of the upper hitch pin in the opposite direction. Record the dial indicator reading, which should be a positive number. Lower the machine back to the ground. See Illustration 2.
This step will show the correct way to calculate the total hitch movement. By using a jack, the machine measured 0.1143 mm (0.0045 inch). By using the grapple and the blade, the machine measured 0.4699 mm (0.0185 inch). Add the measurement of the grapple and blade to the measurement of the jack. This will give you a total movement of 0.5842 mm (0.023 inch). The maximum hitch movement is 0.8890 mm (0.035 inch). Wear in excess of 0.8890 mm (0.035 inch) should be corrected.
Illustration 3 g01487313
If the total measured hitch movement is in excess of 0.8890 mm (0.035 inch) proceed with this instruction and replace the upper hitch pin and sleeve bearing.Instructions for Separating the Machine
Refer to Service Manual Disassembly and Assembly, RENR8901, "Front Frame From Rear Frame Separate" for instructions. The following steps will provide access in order to replace the bronze bearing with minimal disassembly. The following steps are recommended.
Disconnect the hoses over the hitch.
Disconnect the center drive shaft. Refer to Service Manual Disassembly and Assembly, RENR8892, "Drive Shaft Center - Remove and Install" for more information.
Remove the upper and the lower hitch pins.
Rotate the rear frame. This will expose the bronze bearing. The lower hoses and the harness can remain connected.
