Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.

Remove bolts (2) and remove guard (1).
Inspect the alternator belt for wear and for cracking. Replace the belt if the belt is not in good condition. Inspect the belt tension according to the information in Testing and Adjusting, "Belt Tension Chart". Slippage of loose belts can reduce the efficiency of the driven components. Vibration of loose belts can cause unnecessary wear on the following components:

Pulleys
BearingsIf the belts are too tight, unnecessary stress is placed on the components. This reduces the service life of the components.Replace
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Loosen nuts (7) on adjustment rod (6).
Loosen nut (3) on the bolt. Push the bottom of the alternator (4) toward the cylinder block. Remove the belt from alternator pulley (5).
Install the new belt. Tighten the belt. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Belt Tension Chart".
Pull the bottom of alternator (4) back into position. Tighten nut (3) to 460 60 N m (340 44 lb ft).
Tighten nuts (7) on the adjustment bar to a torque of 30 15 N m (22 11 lb ft).
Position guard (2). Install nuts (1). Tighten the nuts to 240 40 N m (175 30 lb ft).
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
