Information:

At the Chassis ECM J2 harness connector, use the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes to measure the duty cycle of the gear request status circuit. Insert the positive probe along the circuit wire at contact J2-19 (wire J882-BR). Insert the negative probe along the ECM ground circuit at contact J2-22 (wire J878-YL).
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. The Shift Control Lever remains in the PARK position.
Fully depress the brake pedal. While observing the duty cycle of the circuit, move the Shift Control Lever through each lever position. Record the duty cycle percentages for each position.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
At the Chassis ECM J2 harness connector, move the 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes to measure the duty cycle of the position sensor signal circuit. Insert the positive probe along the circuit wire at contact J2-35 (wire M997-PU). Leave the negative probe inserted along the ECM ground circuit at contact J2-22 (wire J878-YL).
Start the Engine and repeat Step "D".Expected Result:Refer to the table at the beginning of this procedure. The PWM duty cycles for both sets of measurements are each in the acceptable approximate range for each lever position. Results:
OK - The duty cycle measurements of the command circuit and the actual position sensor circuit are approximately the same and are in the acceptable ranges for each of the lever positions. There does not appear to be a problem with the signal duty cycle. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The PWM duty cycle measurement of the requested gear command circuit is greater than 95 percent and does not match the duty cycle measurement of the actual position sensor circuit which is in the expected ranges. There is a problem with the requested gear command circuit. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The PWM duty cycle measurement of the requested gear command circuit is not correct. However, the measurement of the actual position sensor circuit is not correct either. There is a problem with the Shift Control Lever Position Sensor or the position sensor signal circuit.Repair: Refer to the Troubleshooting, KENR8396, "MID 087 - CID 1428" troubleshooting procedure in order to troubleshoot the actual position sensor signal circuit.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At the Chassis ECM, disconnect the machine harness connector J2 from the ECM. Examine the pins and sockets on the ECM and on the harness connector. Ensure that all of the pins and sockets are secured in the connectors, the contacts are clean, and the contacts are in good condition.
At the Drivetrain ECM, disconnect the machine harness connector J2 from the ECM. Examine the pins and sockets on the ECM and on the ECM harness connectors. Ensure that all of the pins and sockets are secured in the connectors, the contacts are clean, and the contacts are in good condition.
Measure the resistance between the Drivetrain ECM requested
