Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Remove and Install".
Remove the hood. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hood - Remove". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, thoroughly clean the exterior of the component. Thoroughly cleaning the exterior of the component will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses, and all tubes in order to prevent fluid loss and contaminants from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" for the capacity of the cooling system.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" for the proper draining procedure.

Disconnect hose assembly (1).

Install a suitable lifting device to radiator guard (2). The weight of radiator guard (2) is approximately 33 kg (72 lb).
Remove two pins (3) from radiator guard (2).
Remove two bolts (4) from each side of radiator guard (2).
Remove radiator guard (2).
Remove eight bolts (5) from tank assembly (6).

Disconnect electrical connector (7) and sensor (8).
Disconnect hose assemblies (9), (10), (11), (12) and (13).

Install a suitable lifting device to tank assembly (6). The weight of tank assembly (6) is approximately 49 kg (108 lb).
Remove tank assembly (6).
Start By:
