Testing and Adjusting the Case Drain Flow of the Piston Motor
Introduction
This test is designed to determine the case drain flow from the vibratory motor.
Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Required Tools
The hydraulic test may be performed with the following tooling:

(1) Vibratory motor
(2) Drain line
Disconnect drain line (2) from vibratory motor (1).
Install Tool (A) in the drain line (2).
Move the vibratory amplitude control to the LOW AMPLITUDE position.
Start the machine and run the engine at high idle at a minimum 2250 RPM. Check the hydraulic temperature with Tool (B) until the hydraulic oil temperature reaches 38°C (100°F).
When the vibratory system is off and when the machine is at high idle, read the amount of oil flow that passes through the flow meter. The flow should be less than 3.8 L/min (1 US gpm).
Depress the vibratory on/off control to the ON position in order to start the vibratory system. The flow should be at a minimum of 5.7 L/min (1.5 US gpm) to a maximum 8.8 L/min (2.3 US gpm).
Depress the vibratory on/off control to the OFF position in order to stop the vibration system. Stop the engine.
Move the vibratory amplitude control to the HIGH AMPLITUDE position.
Repeat Steps 5 through 8. Adjusting Procedure
If the flow is not within 5.7 L/min (1.5 US gpm) to a maximum 8.8 L/min (2.3 US gpm), the vibratory motor should be repaired or replaced.
Remove all test tooling and reconnect line (2) to motor (1).
