Field Installation of EIS
Engine software, transmission control software and monitor software need updated and configured in order to install EIS. Use ET2009C or higher for installation and the configuration. A film will also be applied within the cab for the EIS.Update the Engine Software

( 2 ) The EIS can be installed on 980H machines that have a serial number of 1-3999.
( 3 ) The EIS can be installed on 980H machines that have a serial number of 4000 - Up or have been updated with the 318-8496 Engine Kit Update the Transmission Control Software

Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) in order to configure the following parameters in the transmission ECM:
Set the "Engine Idle Shutdown Installation Status" to "Installed".
Enter a factory password. Follow the instructions that are given in ET.
Use ET in order to configure the following parameters in the engine ECM:
Set "Engine Idle Shutdown Enable Status" to "Enabled"
Set the "Engine Idle Shutdown Delay Time" to the desired time before shutdown. Enter the time in minutes.

Place 352-9153 Film (Engine Idle Shut down) in the cab on the dashboard. Refer to Illustration 1.The following machines have "EIS" installed but not "Enabled" from the factory. On these machines only Step 2 of the configuration will have to be performed to "Enable" this feature.
