Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove the air pressure from the air tank and drain the coolant from the cooling system.

Disconnect hose assembly (1) and hose assembly (3) from the air compressor.
Disconnect hose assembly (2) and hose assembly (4) from the air compressor.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the air compressor. The weight of the air compressor is approximately 23 kg (51 lb).
Remove the mounting bracket for the air compressor by using the following procedure:

Remove bolts (5) that fasten the mounting bracket to the air compressor.
Remove bolts (6) that fasten the mounting bracket to the cylinder block. Remove the mounting bracket for the air compressor.

Remove bolts (7), air compressor (8), and the integral seal from the timing gear housing. Installation Procedure

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the air compressor. The weight of the air compressor is approximately 23 kg (51 lb).
Inspect the condition of the integral seal. Replace the integral seal, if necessary. Install the integral seal between air compressor (8) and the timing gear housing.
Position air compressor (8) in the front housing. Ensure that the drive gear engages correctly with the gear in the front housing.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of bolts (7). Install bolts (7). Tighten bolts (7) to a torque of 100 20 N m (75 15 lb ft).
Install the mounting bracket for the air compressor by using the following procedure:

Position the bracket for the air compressor and install bolts (5) and bolts (6) finger tight.
A loose compressor bracket can lead to a broken front cover and can cause damage to the front gear train of the engine.
Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 60 12 N m (44 9 lb ft). Remove the suitable lifting device and Tooling (A).

Connect hose assembly (4) to the air compressor. Connect the clip that holds hose assembly (4) to the air compressor, if necessary. Tighten the bolt that holds the clip for the oil hose assembly to a torque of 28 7 N m (21
