GENERATOR SET,
Information:
Engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health. Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
For initial start-up of a new or rebuilt engine, and for start-up of an engine that has been serviced, make provision to shut the engine off should an overspeed occur. This may be accomplished by shutting off the air and/or fuel supply to the engine.
Do not start the engine or move any of the controls if there is a "DO NOT OPERATE" warning tag or similar warning tag attached to the start switch or to the controls.Ensure that no one will be endangered before the engine is started and when the engine is started. If the engine has not been operated for several weeks, fuel may have drained from the fuel filters and air may have entered the fuel filter housing. When fuel filters have been replaced, some air is left in the fuel filter housing. Prime the fuel system in these situations. See this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" (Maintenance Section).Perform the procedures that are described in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Before Starting Engine" (Operation Section). The air starting motor uses aerodynamic speed control. Aerodynamic speed control eliminates the need for a mechanical automatic trip valve to control the speed of the air starting motor. The air starting motor is lubricated at the factory. No additional lubrication of the air starting motor is required. The air starting motor can operate from drive pressures of 207 kPa (30 psi) to 827 kPa (120 psi). The air starting motor delivers 15.6 kW (21 hp) at the maximum driving pressure of 827 kPa (120 psi).Perform the following procedure in order to start the engine:
Ensure that the driven equipment is disengaged.
Start the engine at low idle rpm.
Immediately after engine start-up, ensure that oil pressure and fuel pressure are indicated on the gauges. Allow the engine to idle for three to five minutes. The engine speed should stabilize at low idle rpm. Check all of the pressure gauges. Inspect the engine for leaks and listen for unusual noises. When all systems are normal, the rpm may be increased and a load may be applied.
