Drain Water and Sediment
1. The drain plug is located on the front, right side of the machine. 2. Remove drain plug and allow the water and sediment to drain into a suitable container.3. Install the drain plug.Water System
Clean Filters
1. Close the water system valves by turning the T-handles clockwise. 2. Open the water filter access cover. 3. Remove the filter bowls and use pressure air to clean screen.4. Install screen and filter bowl.5. Close the water filter access cover. 6. Remove the fill caps and clean the strainers. There are three water tank fill caps; one on each side of the operator's seat and one below the front of the operators seat.7. Install strainers and fill caps.Walk-Around Inspection
Inspect Machine
Accumulated grease and oil on a machine is a fire hazard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or high pressure water, at least every 1000 hours or any time a significant quantity of oil is spilled on the machine.
Inspect carefully for leaks. If leaking is observed, locate the source and correct the leak. Check fluid levels more frequently than the recommended periods if leaking is suspected or observed.Inspect and replace lights, broken bulbs and lenses.Inspect and remove any trash build-up around the engine.Inspect and repair any engine component leaks. Inspect steps and handholds for condition and cleanliness. Inspect the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) (if equipped) for damage. If repair is necessary contact your Caterpillar dealer. Tighten any loose ROPS bolts. Repair or clean if necessary.Inspect the hydraulic system for leaks. Inspect the tank, hoses, tubes, plugs, joints and fittings. Correct any leaks.
Whenever inspection or maintenance work is performed on the hydraulic system, all hydraulic hoses and fittings must be checked. Replace damaged hoses immediately.
Check all hoses, fittings and components for leaks.If the machine is equipped with lights, turn on the light switch. Observe the lights and replace any that are not working.Be sure covers and guards are firmly in place. Inspect for damage. Inspect operator's station for cleanliness and remove all trash.Inspect and repair the instrument panel gauges, controls, and switches when necessary.Inspect the rubber isolation blocks, between the vibratory drum and the machine frame for damage, cracking or splitting. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for the complete isolation block replacement procedure. Start the machine and depress the horn button. If the horn does not sound make any necessary repairs before operating. Inspect oil filter indicator. Service filters before the recommended service interval if the indicators are not in acceptable range. Refer to the Every 500 Service Hours or 6 Months in this Maintenance Section for more detailed information.Seat Belt
Inspect for Wear or Damage
Replace the seat belt after three years of usage, regardless of appearance. Seat belt and mounting hardware must be inspected for wear or damage before operating the machine. Replace the belt or mounting hardware if worn or damaged.Indicators
Test for Proper Function
1. Look for broken indicator lights, switches, etc.2. Turn the key switch to the ON position.3. All indicator lights should come on except the direction indicator
