Information:
measurement is in the range of 110.0 ohms to 200.0 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F). The resistance of the speed sensor circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 5.
NOT OK - The speed sensor circuit resistance measurement is not in the correct resistance range. Proceed to Test Step 3 in order to check the speed sensor.Test Step 3. CHECK THE SPEED SENSORThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position. The machine harness connector J1 for the Generator ECM remains disconnected.
At the rear of the Generator, disconnect the machine harness connector from the Secondary Generator Speed Sensor. At the speed sensor connector, measure the resistance between contact 1 and contact 2.Expected Result:The resistance measurement should be in the range of 110.0 ohms to 200.0 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F). Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is in the range of 110.0 ohms to 200.0 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F). The resistance of the Secondary Generator speed sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The Secondary Generator Speed Sensor resistance measurements is not in the correct resistance range.Repair: The Secondary Generator Speed Sensor is faulty.Replace the Secondary Generator Speed Sensor. After the speed sensor is replaced, verify that the new speed sensor solves the problem before operating the machine.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE SENSOR CIRCUITSThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position. The machine harness connector J1 for the Generator ECM remains disconnected. The speed sensor remains disconnected from the machine harness.
At the disconnected machine harness connector for the Secondary Generator Speed Sensor, connect a jumper wire between the signal plus (+) contact 1 (wire P967-PU) and the signal minus (-) contact 2 (wire G902-OR).
At the machine harness connector J1 for the Generator ECM, measure the resistance of the circuits between the Secondary Generator Speed Sensor signal minus (-) contact J1-5 (wire P967-PU) and the signal plus (+) contact J1-5 (wire G902-OR).
While observing the resistance measurement, wiggle the ECM J1 connector. Gently pull on the wires and move the wires around.
While observing the resistance measurement, wiggle the machine harness connector for the speed sensor. Gently pull on the wires and move the wires around. Do not disconnect the jumper wire.Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the wires and the connectors. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms at all times. The resistance measurement is indicating that the speed sensor circuits are not open and a poor connection is not present in the speed sensor circuits. Proceed to Test Step 5.
NOT OK - The resistance measurement is greater that 5 ohms at all times during the measurement or the resistance measurement is greater that 5 ohms momentarily during the manipulation of the wires or the connectors. There is an open or a poor connection in the machine harness. Repair: Disconnect the jumper wire that was connected between the speed sensor circuits. Check the
